GV Instruments has its origins in the VG Isotopes business which was split off from the organic mass spectrometry business of VG Instruments in the late 1970's. This business was later split into VG Isogas [stable isotope mass spectrometry], VG Isotopes [Thermal Ionisation and Noble Gas mass spectrometry] and VG Elemental [ICP-MS]. The subsequent evolution of the company under the ownership of Fisons, Micromass, Waters and today, GV, is shown in the chart below.
